Gallagher Premiership Week 1 preview- Weekend games

Exeter vs Leicester

Kick off: 3:05pm Saturday

 

Team News:

Exeter: 

The Chiefs are already struggling with injuries. Henry Slade, Zach Wimbush, Daffyd Jenkins and Jacques Vermeulen are all missing for the first game.Scott Sio captains the side and Ben Hammersley will play at 13.

 

Leicester:

Michael Cheika makes Ollie Chessum captain and Van Poortvliet vice captain. The team is without Handre Pollard so Jamie Shillcock starts at fly-half. There are debuts for Perese, Smith,Joussain and Volavola.

 

2 sides with playoff ambitions meet on the weekend at Sandy Park. Exeter are already struggling with injuries so it may be a challenge to replicate their start from last season.

 

Gloucester vs Saracens

Kick off: 5:30pm Saturday

 

Team news:

 

Gloucester:

Christian Wade returns immediately and will resume his hunt for the premiership try record. Gareth Anscombe and Tomos Williams are the halfback combination in a strong Gloucester side. There will also be eyes on this game because exciting young tight-head prop Afo Fasogbon is starting in a position England could do with some new players.

 

Saracens:

Maro Itoje captains the team. Theo Dan starts at hooker with Jamie George on the bench. Fergus Burke starts at fly-half. Rhys Carre starts at loose-head prop.

 

Gloucester will be looking to get off to a good start at Kingsholm this season in order to ease the pressure on director of rugby, George Skivington. Saracens will be looking to prove that can have success without Owen Farrell.

 

 

Sale vs Harlequins:

Waisea Nayacalevu makes his debut at outside centre. Asher Opoku-Fordjour starts at tighthead in a strong front row next to Luke Cowan-Dickie and Bevan Rodd. Gus Warr partners George Ford in the halfbacks. The Curry brothers are on each flank.

 

Harlequins:

Fin Baxter starts in the front row. Porter and Evans start at 9 and 10 with Smith and Care on the bench. Leigh Halfpenny makes his debut at fullback. Anyanwu starts at inside centre and oscar Beard starts on the wing.

 

Sale have selected a strong starting XV which will likely give them the early advantage, Quins have decided to hold back some of their stars to make maximum impact in the latter stages of the match when it really counts. The physicality of Sale meets the flair of Harlequins, which style will come out on top?
