England player ratings vs France

Genge 7

He was better at the scrum despite conceding one or two early penalties. His carrying was impactful as it normally is.

Cowan-Dickie 5.5

Decent in the loose but the line-out was incredibly sloppy. Perhaps he was affected by the lack of another jumper such as Ollie Chessum but he still needed to do better. His mistakes were highlighted when Jamie George came on and immediately fixed the line-out.

Stuart 7

Another solid game for Stuart who is now a player that England can rely upon for 7/10 performances in every game, and I mean that in the best way possible.

Itoje 7

His first home game as captain was a rousing success. Itoje himself played well and was his usual disruptive self. He did take responsibility after the game for the mixed line-out success due to him being the caller.

Martin 6

He had less of an impact than normal but was still a physical presence.

T.Curry 8.5

Tom Curry is a world-class player who is in a rich vein of form. He was immense in terms of winning turnovers but was also a big presence with his carrying.

Earl 8

Good on the floor as one would expect. He ran some excellent lines for line-breaks and was impactul throughout.

Willis 8

Tom Willis fills a gap that England have had since Billy Vunipola began to decline in 2023. Earl is an excellent plaer but Willis brings a new level of brute force. His stats weren't spectacular but his carries were vital in crowded areas to get England on the front foot.

Mitchell 7.5

After a shaky performance last week, Mitchell was much more like himself today. He stayed on for the full 80 and worked well with his club teammate as a halfback combination.

F.Smith 7.5Thi

He was thrown into the deep end for his first international start and had a couple of shaky moments early on but gathered himself well and was a key part of the England attack to win the game.

Sleightholme 7

A good performance from Sleightholme who had a good battle with Penaud throughout.

Slade 8

This was his best England performance for a long time. He was seemingly everywhere and showed everyone why he is so important to this team.

Lawrence 8

Lawrence continues to play his best rugby in an England shirt whilst staking his claim for the Lions Tour. His carrying ability is much easier to show off from the 13 channel which he has recently moved to for his country.

Freeman 7.5

He was impressive in the air in a mismatch against Bielle-Biarrey and was a reliable player throughout. He is quickly becoming a seasoned international.

M.Smith 7

This was a mixed bag for Smith. He looks exceptionally dangerous in attack and handled defence well. The one issue was his poor goal-kicking. He was eventually replaced from the tee by Fin Smith who was impressive.

George 8

He came on and immediately made his mark. The line-out started working perfectly and he picked a couple of great lines for some breaks. He is quite clearly England's best hooker.

Baxter 7

He came on and solidified the scrum. He also scored a late try.

Heyes 6.5

Along with Baxter, made the scrum solid.

Chessum 7.5

Brought a physical presence to the game and improved the line-out immediately. He put forward a good case to start against Scotland.

Daly 7

Didn't make much impact after replacing Slade but he did make the pivotal play at the death with a lovely line that cut straight through the disorganised French back-line.
