Winners
Huw Jones
He is staking is claim to start at outside centre for the British and Irish Lions this summer. He made scores of line-breaks and caused absolute chaos in the England defence which is something that has become a regular occurrence in recent years.
Jamie Ritchie
RItchie seems to be a player who is at his best against England. He won multiple turnovers and carried strongly throughout.
Ollie Chessum
Even if Martin wasn't injured, Chessum would surely be the starting lock to partner Itoje. He is a good line-out option and brings mountains of physicality to the England pack.
Will Stuart
Despite already having nearly fifty caps, it feels like Will Stuart has come out of nowhere to seem like a nailed-on Lion in July. The Bath man has shown he is not only a capable international player, but is a legitimately quality starter for this team.
Duhan Van der Merwe
The tormentor returned to Twickenham on Saturday afternoon. He didn't score a hat-trick but made the second most carries and scored what seemed like the winning try right at the death. He was one FIn Russell conversion from ruining yet another Calcutta Cup for the English.
Losers
Fin Russell
He actually played well for a lot of the game. His passing was incredible and he ran the game well. Unfortunately the big moments did not go this way. It doesn't matter how well you play, missing three kicks in a game lost by a point is a difficult thing to overlook. He played well but missed kicks put him on the list.
Marcus Smith
This isn't necessarily a direct criticism of Marcus Smith. I'm just not sure what the point of playing him at fullback is if you are going to use a game-plan that suits Freddie Steward. Fin Smith seems to be taking hold of the 10 shirt and if this England tactic continues, surely Steward is the natural starter.
Harry Randall
This is a similar situation to Marcus Smith. Why bring Harry Randall off the bench if you just want a scrum-half to box kick? Ben Spencer or Jack Van Poortvliet are much more suited to that style of play. His box kicking was also bad and not good enough for this level but he is talented if put in the right situation.
RIchard Wigglesworth
My last two criticisms bring me to this one. Richard Wigglesworth is in charge of the England attack - or lack thereof. England didn't go more than three phases without kicking once against Scotland. This style(and some luck) was enough to get over the line against France and Scotland, but if England don't improve their attack they will not get to where they, and their fans, expect to be. The coaching staff certainly has adequate players at their disposal so this is on the coaching staff to figure out.
