Elliot Daly
After much controversy over his selection Elliot Daly delivered a performance to silence the doubters. He started well at fullback before quickly moving to outside centre after an injury to Ollie Lawrence. Daly was crucial to England's more expansive style and his passing and kicking selection kept the team in rhythm. He did get caught behind the gain-line a couple of times but that will happen when you're in a midfield opposite Menoncello and Brex and he handled those situations well to avoid losing possession.
Fraser Dingwall
This was DIngwall's first game back in an England shirt for a year and he made it count. England have lacked creativity in midfield in recent times and DIngwall brought that in spades. His familiarity with the half-backs was clear to see throughout as he provided a good option as a second receiver and manipulated the defence with ease.
Ollie Chessum
Since returning from injury, Chessum has been a beast. His work rate and line-out dominance were already impressive but his physicality in attack seems to have gone up a level. He is constantly able to knock back defenders when carrying and provides the brute force England need to be able to spread the ball into the wide channels.
Ross Vintcent
In what was a game of two very different halves, Ross VIntcent stood out for the losers. The Exeter man carried hard and showe great pace to get on the score sheet. He was a thorn in England's side all day during what was arguably his best performance in an Italy shirt.
Ange Capuozzo
Capuozzo moved back to his original position of fullback for the game on Sunday, replacing Tomasso Allan who dropped to the bench. This move was probably done to get him more touches after he was unable to really impact the previous games from the wing. The position change paid dividends for Gonzalo Quesada as Capuozzo scored one try and made a superb individual run to set up a second. That version of Capuozzo is dangerous to every team on the planet. It makes for a tough decision given the kicking prowess and control that Allan brings, but Capuozzo is Italy's best player and they have to maximise his abilities.
Losers
Giacomo Nicotera
The Italian hooker had a tough day at the office from start to finish. His line-out throwing left a lot to be desired but that was far from his worst moment. Getting stepped cleanly by Will Stuart is a moment that I am sure will haunt him in perpetuity.
Paolo Garbisi
Garbisi is an excellent fly-half but he still has the potential for dismal performances fairly regularly. This was one of those days and it was costly. His defence was dodgy with multiple missed tackles and his handling was circumspect to say the least. After a bright start, his in-game collapse seemed to trigger the more general second half collapse of the Italian team overall.
Matt Gallagher
Gallagher was caught out of position for a couple of tries and had a tough day overall. Tommy Freeman got the better of him in every big moment. Gallagher will surely now be under a lot of pressure for his starting position. It is feasible that Capuozzo could move back onto the wing. Simone Gesi is an exciting player who has shown sparks already on the left wing for Italy and Lynagh will return from injury having already shown he can start for this team. Gallagher is a better player than he showed on Sunday but he better prove that quickly if he is to keep his place in this team.
