PWR Round 9 preview

Trailfinders Women vs Harlequins

Kickoff: 7:30pm, Friday 30th January

Venue: Trailfinders Sports Ground

Watch on: BBC iPlayer

Key to the game: Can the Harlequins back row live up to the hype? There was much talk about the signing of Aoife Wafer in the summer but her injury delayed her debut in the PWR. More injuries in the back row and second row have meant that Harlequins have been unable to get their best XV on the pitch consistently. However, they now have a back row of Wafer, Callender and Konkel which is potentially the best in the league. They'll be up against a strong group of some experienced internationals so this will be a tough test. If they can get one over on Trailfinders, it will be a big statement to the rest of the league.

Prediction: Harlequins victory

Chiefs vs Leicester Tigers

Kickoff: 1pm, Sunday 1st February

Venue: Sandy Park

Watch on: BBC iPlayer

Key to the game: Can the American backs help Tigers to get back on track? Exeter, on paper, have a much stronger side so Leicester will have to rely on a couple of stars to create some magic. Those stars for Leicester are: Feury, Henrich and Feury. If they can control the tempo of the game, this could be much closer than people expect.

Prediction: Chiefs win

Bristol Bears vs Sale Sharks

Kickoff: 1pm, Sunday 1st February

Venue: Shaftesbury Park

Watch on: Youtube

Key to the game: Can Ruahei Demant turn Bristol's season around? Last season the Bears made the semi-finals but this season they are sitting in 8th at the halfway point with just 5 points. Sale have invested heavily over the summer and sit 7th on 12 points. If either side has any ambition for the rest of this season, this is a must-win game. The addition of Ruahei Demant to replace Holly Aitchison, who left Bristol for Sale, was an exciting move but it is yet to work out. She is now co-captain with Sarah Bern and needs to bring her best form to this game.

Prediction: Sharks win

Gloucester-Hartpury vs Loughborough Lightning

Kickoff: 3pm, Sunday 1st February

Venue: Kingsholm

Watch on: TNT Sports 1

Key to the game: How will Helen Nelson perform? Gloucester-Hartpury are the big favourites to win this game but Lightning are in with a chance. In order to pull off an upset, Helen Nelson will have to be at her best. She likes to play an expansive game, and is a massive running threat, but her kicking game can be very up-and-down. If she can get herself going, Loughborough could be a real challenge for the 3-time defending champions.

Prediction: Gloucester-Hartpury win
